This December 15, 6 pm, local writers collective Nagkahiusang Magsusulat sa Cagayan de Oro (NAGMAC) will organize the December installment of the city’s premier literary event, CDO Poetry Night, at the SM CDO Downtown Premier – Sky Garden at the Fifth.
Themed “panagbiya, panag-abot”, the event will feature spoken word, live poetry and prose readings, musical performances, an open mic contest, and launching of the Issue 5: “Departures and Destinations” of the Bulawan Literary Journal of Northern Mindanao. Bulawan Literary Journal’s fifth regular issue features travel-themed literary works by poet Jaime An Lim, playwright and fictionist John Iremil Teodoro, essayist Wilfredo Pascual, and many others.
Cagayan de Oro-born and Sydney-based novelist KM Levis, author of bestselling “The Girl Between Two Worlds” (Anvil, 2016), will also read excerpts from and sign copies of her second novel “The Girl Between Light and Dark” (Anvil, 2018).
The Mindanao Creative Writers Group (MCWG) and the Culture and Arts Studies Center of the Mindanao State University – Iligan Institute of Technology (MSU – IIT) are now accepting manuscripts in Binisaya, (Tagalog-based) Filipino, English, Hiligaynon, Waray, Chavacano, Higaonon, Binukid, Meranaw, and Tausug for poetry, short fiction, and excerpts of a novel (one chapter and with summary of the novel). The Nagkahiusang Magsusulat sa Cagayan de Oro(NAGMAC), in partnership with the Libulan Queer Collective and the Xavier Center for Culture and the Arts (XCCA), awards twelve (12) writing fellowships to emerging Mindanaoan writers for the 2018 Cagayan de Oro Young Writers Studio, which will be held at Xavier University-Ateneo de Cagayan in Cagayan de Oro City on 29 October(poetry and drama leg) and 30 October(fiction & creative nonfiction prose leg).
